Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)

Used for recording transcription, media transcription, and live practice.
Example: 20 hours is 1,200 minutes: enough for about 1,800 short recordings at 40 seconds each, or 20 speaking activities with 30 students recording two minutes each.
Models: AssemblyAI Universal-2 (universal-2) for recordings; Universal Streaming Multilingual (universal-streaming-multilingual) for live transcription.
Text-to-Speech (TTS)
750k characters for $5
Used for lesson audio, read-aloud, listening, and pronunciation activities.
Example: About 15,000 short prompts at 50 characters each, or 500 listening passages at 1,500 characters each.
Model: Google Cloud Text-to-Speech WaveNet.
Generative AI (GenAI) Tokens
1M tokens for $5
Used for lesson generation, AI feedback, grading, and teacher AI tools.
Example: About 250 text-generation requests at 4,000 tokens each, or 1,600 rubric-grading requests at 600 tokens each. Image generation uses the same token balance. Input and output tokens count equally toward the same balance.
Models: OpenAI GPT-5.4 mini (gpt-5.4-mini) for text generation and rubric grading; GPT-Image-2.5 Flare (gpt-image-2.5-flare) for image generation.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
1,000 pages for $5
Used for reviewing handwritten or hand-drawn student submissions and supporting academic integrity.
Example: 40 assignments for a class of 25 students, with one image per student each time. Each image processed counts as one page.
Service: Amazon Textract DetectDocumentText for printed and handwritten text. AWS manages the model version.
