How do I create a lesson?

Create a Lesson

1. Sign in with your teacher account.
2. Open the course where the lesson should live.
3. If the course has no lessons yet, select the new lesson link in the empty lesson area. Otherwise, select New Lesson.
4. In the New Lesson dialog, enter the Lesson Name.
5. Select Save.
6. Open the lesson from the course table to add or edit lesson content in the lesson editor. You can also use AI generation or CSV import to add lesson items faster.

Duplicate Questions and Media in the Lesson Editor

Use an item's Duplicate button to add another copy directly below it, or duplicate checked items in the reordering view. This copies the lesson item, while its stored media assets are initially shared with the original item. It does not create separate copies of the underlying files.

When you later edit shared media, supported media editors let you choose Overwrite or Create New when saving. Overwrite updates the shared asset and affects the other items using it. Create New saves a separate version for the item you are editing, leaving the other items' asset unchanged. The choice appears when editing shared media, not during the initial duplication.

Remove Questions and Media in the Lesson Editor

Deleting a question, section, or media element removes that item from the lesson. It does not permanently delete the underlying stored asset. The file remains in the Media Manager (Media Library), and other lesson items using that file can continue to use it.

If no remaining item uses the file, it is detached from the lesson content, but still contributes to the lesson's Assets total. This is why the total can be larger than the number of media items you can see in the editor.

To permanently delete an unwanted asset, open Media in the sidebar, choose Teacher Uploads, and find the file in the course and lesson folders. Preview or download it to check it, select its delete button, review the deletion details, then select Delete Media.

Permanent deletion cannot be undone. Check that the file is no longer needed before deleting it; deleting an asset that is still used will make it unavailable to those lesson items. See how to use the Media Library for more details.

When you copy a lesson, only assets used by its current content are copied. Detached assets stay with the original lesson.

What Happens Next

New lessons are created inside the selected course. When a course is assigned to a class, lessons already in that course are turned on for the class.

Troubleshooting

• You must create or open a course before creating a lesson.
• If the course containing the lesson has been assigned to one or more classes, updates to the lesson are reflected for those classes. Students who have already started a draft or submitted the lesson keep the version they started with.
• If the course is already assigned to a class, newly added lessons may need to be turned on from the class's assigned course settings before students can see them.
